I had a blast. Great job by all involved. Special thanks to Warren and Gary. Here's is my AAR.
Mission One -
Defend the Bases or, Deadbolt gets a crash course in scenario paintball
Our mission was to defend the three bases on the field from the US invasion. Blue base in the North, Swing base in center east and Red base (location of our dead zone) in the southwest. General Deadbolt anticipated the enemy to concentrate it's forces on Blue base because it was close to their dead zone, so we were going to give Blue to them an concentrate on the more valuable Swing base and our home base, Red. Deadbolt sent a small force to ambush an harry the expected attack on Blue and then fade back to Swing. Deadbolt split the remaining forces between Red and Swing. I was stationed at Swing. The US decided to throw all its forces at Red base and were beaten back after multiple attempts. The US then switched focus to Blue base. Our force at Blue was unsuccessful at completing a fighting retreat to Swing and were either shot out or never found their way to Swing. Because of this the US forces invaded Swing from the North without much warning while most of our quality troops were focused West and South. I was shot out at Swing shortly after Deadbolt and met him back in the dead zone at Red base. Swing was overrun, but Red base was secure, so Deadbolt took the troops defending Red and led an attack on Blue. Deadbolt left myself and three or four of the troops who had been shot out at Swing to defend Red base. While Red base was easily defensible, it's big and we were not yet experienced with that portion of the field. We didn't set up our defenders well and in the final minutes Red was overrun by a small force and the flag was turned. The US forces scored all points.
Mission Two - Capture the Ammo Boxes or, Clawing our way back
Six ammo boxes worth 50 points each were scattered about the field to simulate an air drop. It was our job to find them and take them back to our base. Randy aka Flight of the Blazing Suns apparently new the location of one of the boxes because he arrived at Red base shortly after the mission began with a box in hand. The other boxes didn't come so easily.
While searching for boxes, I managed to ambush a US patrol, taking one out, but I was alone and outnumbered so I retreated back to Red base. I met Deadbolt at the base and informed him a US patrol was on the way when we were promptly shot out by one of their number (Warren) who was literally crawling into our base. He didn't make it far past our other defenders after that though, and he seemed to be alone. Deadbolt left to continue the search and he and a detachment were caught in a massive firefight trying to cross the riverbed that lasted the entire rest of the mission.
While trying to flank the firefight on the right, my detachment came across a ammo box that I promptly scooped up and ran back to Red base. With only minutes left in the mission, I joined another group leaving red and spotted another ammo box with US defenders right on top of it. We fought our way to the box and then relayed it to each other rugby-style. Even though the mission came to an end before we could get the box all the way back to Red, there was no opposition, and I managed to get the box close enough for the points to be counted. The PDF scored 150 points.
Mission Three and Three and a Half -
Hostage Rescue and Ammo Dump Destruction, or The mission that skewed the game our way.
We were assigned five randomly picked US troops as hostages. Each hostage was worth 50 points. We had to hold the hostages at Swing base for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes the hostages were "shot" and we gained 50 points for each. The second half of the mission involved the US forces blowing our ammo dump. The ammo dump was right next to Red base. In the ammo dump there were four PVC pipes installed upright in the ground, each marked with a number. The US forces had four smaller pipes with corresponding numbers that they were to insert into the pipes in the ammo dump. This signified a "blown" section of the dump. Each blown section was worth 100 points.
The US forces had a choice. Go for the very difficult 400 points without five of their men and give us 250 points or rescue their men, gain 250 points and then go after the 400 points full strength, but with less time. After a bit of discussion, it was decided that they would most likely go after the hostages. We kept a very small force at Red base and put everything else we had with the hostages at Swing.
We guessed right. They threw everyone they had at Swing and we didn't even have a sniff at Red base. Our troops did great at Swing and we won all 250 points after the 20 minutes. It wasn't long after that that our troops started showing up at Red base with the American's charges (PVC pipes)! The Americans had to drop the charges when they were shot out, and apparently Payne made an in-game decision that we could capture the charges. We captured them all rather quickly, causing the game to end prematurely, but we were still given the points for the mission.
This led to the "half mission" where the US forces were given a second go at blowing up the ammo dump, but for less points. This time we were told not to move the US forces charges when they dropped them. At one point, I was alone on the south side of Red base and caught a force of four US troops trying to find their way down to the river bed. I had an excellent position and managed to shoot out all four of them, including one who was carrying two charges! The US forces never even got close enough to any of our ammo to threaten us, and we won the mission again. Result - PDF victory!
